On February 14, Nanjing and Zaragoza, Spain, signed a Letter of Intent to establish a sister city relationship. Chen Zhichang, Mayor of Nanjing, welcomed Mayor of Zaragoza Natalia Chueca Muñoz and her delegation.
Zaragoza is the capital city of Spain’s Aragon Autonomous Community. It’s renowned for its robust transportation network, rich historical and cultural heritage, and dynamic automotive and logistics industries. Two cities’ friendly ties began in 2017 with the joint establishment of a Confucius Institute by Nanjing Tech University and the University of Zaragoza. Since then, cultural and educational exchanges have laid a solid foundation for a strong and enduring friendship between two cities.
During the meeting, the mayors engaged in in-depth discussions on enhancing economic and trade cooperation and expanding people-to-people bonds. They recognized that Nanjing and Zaragoza share similar resource endowments and complementary industrial strengths, offering vast potential for collaboration in economic and trade, culture and tourism, education, and science and technology. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Spain. Nanjing and Zaragoza aim to leverage this signing to deepen mutual understanding through friendly exchanges, advance common development through economic cooperation, and strengthen ties through cultural engagement, ultimately achieving mutually beneficial and win-win outcomes.
Jiang Juncheng, President of Nanjing Tech University, also attended the event.
