The 2024 Innovation Fair: European Companies' Nanjing Tour and Industry Cooperation Matchmaking Event Takes Place

The 2024 Innovation Fair & European Companies - Nanjing Industrial Cooperation Matchmaking Conference was held on September 12. Ms. Han Liming, Secretary of the CPC Nanjing Municipal Committee, met with guests including H.E. Ms. Frances-Galatia Lanitou Williams, the Ambassador of Cyprus to China, on September 11. H.E. Mr. Liu Yantao, the Ambassador of China to Cyprus, also attended the conference.

The Innovation Fair & European Companies - Nanjing Industrial Cooperation Matchmaking Conference was created by Messe Stuttgart, aiming to promote the cooperation between China and Europe in science, technology, investment, trade and more sectors. It has been held three times.

A total of 41 companies, research institutions, chambers of commerce and universities from 10 European countries, including Germany, Italy, Spain, Greece and Cyprus, participated in the matchmaking conference. The participants are engaged in artificial intelligence, greenness and low carbon, high-end equipment manufacturing, digital information services, software engineering, cross-border trade, etc.

Han welcomed the guests and briefed the history, culture and socioeconomic development of Nanjing.

She said that opening-up is a clear symbol of Chinese modernization, adding that Nanjing is earnestly implementing the guiding principles of the Third Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee by responding to the call for the establishment of new institutions for a higher-level open economy, expanding institutional opening-up, and deepening the reform of the management system for foreign investment and outbound investment, which will bring new opportunities for win-win cooperation between Nanjing and all walks of life in Europe.

It's hoped that through this event, a matchmaking platform and mechanism will be set up and utilized to drive more EU companies and institutions to carry out in-depth cooperation with parties in Nanjing in scientific and technological innovation, green economy, biomedicine, cultural tourism, exhibitions and other fields.

Nanjing will strengthen its exchanges and cooperation with Limassol and other European sister cities, increase efforts on “bringing in” and “going out”, with a view to creating a first-class international business environment for foreign-funded companies.

Ms. Frances Lanitou said that she was impressed by Nanjing's ecological beauty, history and culture, science education resources and urban charm during her visit.

Cyprus will actively respond to the Belt and Road Initiative, strengthen the sister-city exchanges between Limassol and Nanjing, and enhance practical cooperation in such fields as economy, trade, culture, tourism, science and technology, and education.

“The matchmaking conference fully embodies the confidence and expectation of the European business community in industrial cooperation with China and is becoming an institutional platform for China-Europe economic and trade cooperation,” said Mr. Liu.

Nanjing, as the first Chinese rotating chair of China-Cyprus Sister City Alliance, can continue to strengthen exchanges between the two sides' business communities and young people, as a move to make greater contributions to consolidating China-Cyprus friendly cooperation.

The European Enterprises Service Center (Nanjing) was unveiled at the conference, during which Germany's HDAO and Jianye District, the Chinese & Cypriots Friendship Promotion Association and Nanjing Stuttgart Joint Exhibition Ltd., Austria's KOBV and Jianye High-tech Zone, and Spain's Cambra de Comerç de Manresa and Nanjing Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export signed agreements.

The conference encompassed six promotion activities themed on digital economy and information services, cross-border trade and investment, greenness and low carbon, smart manufacturing, smart grid and equipment manufacturing, as well as universities and associations.

Municipal leaders Ms. Huo Huiping and Mr. Ji Tiejun participated in related activities.
