    Daejeon

    REPUBLIC OF KOREA

Daejeon is located in the central region of Republic of Korea, and covers an area of about 540 square kilometers, consisting of 5 autonomous regions, namely Dong District, Jung District, Seo District, Yuseong District, and Daedeok District. With a population of about 1.518 million, Daejeon is one of the six largest cities in Republic of Korea. Daejeon was founded in 1949 and its urban area was expanded in 1989. As the second largest administrative city, Daejeon is home to a large number of government agencies. It is also famous for its advantages in science and education, with Daedeok Innopolis, the Silicon Valley in Republic of Korea, and the famous Chungnam National University both located here.

In November 1994, Nanjing and Daejeon established sister-city relationship. Since then, the two cities have carried out regular business activities, youth exchanges, calligraphy and painting exhibitions as well as other activities each year. In 2005, in order to further deepen and strengthen exchanges between Nanjing and Daejeon, Daejeon Municipal Government opened an office in Nanjing to introduce its local enterprises and products to Nanjing, and to promote exchanges between the two countries, two municipal governments and their enterprises. The office has become an important window for Daejeon in Nanjing.
