Nagoya
JAPAN
Nagoya is the capital of Aichi Prefecture in Japan. With a population of about 2.3 million and an area of about 326 square kilometers, it is the fourth most populous urban area in Japan after Tokyo, Osaka, and Yokohama. Nagoya is known as the political, economic and cultural center of the central region of Japan as well as the headquarters of Toyota Motor Corporation. It is also an important port city, with Nagoya Port being one of the five major international trade ports in Japan. In March 2005, the Aichi World Expo was held in Nagoya. In December 1978, Nanjing and Nagoya established sister-city relationship, which is the first pair of sister cities in Jiangsu province, and the first pair between China and Japan after the Sino-Japanese Treaty of Peace and Friendship was signed. Official exchanges between the two cities have been suspended since February 2012.
In recent years, Nanjing and Nagoya have had frequent non-governmental exchanges and cooperation in economy, culture, education, science and technology, sports and other fields, and achieved fruitful results.
