14 members of China (Nanjing) Youth Volunteer Service Team to Guyana came back to Nanjing after completed their one-year voluntary services. On the morning of August 20th, Zhu Shanlu, standing member of the CPC Jiangsu Committee and party secretary of Nanjing gave an interview to the team members and required the whole society to quickly boost the voluntary services to a new stage. He called on citizens of Nanjing especially the youth and teenagers to proactively devote into the tide of “hold a good YOG and build a better Nanjing”.

Last year, Nanjing alone took on the project of overseas aiding to Guyana. August 13th and 14th last year, 14 young volunteers of Nanjing went to Guyana to provide voluntary services on economy, geology, mining, martial arts, sports and medical treatment for 1 year. In that period, the volunteers overcame many difficulties and carried out a lot of specialized voluntary services in several departments of Guyana. They conducted cultural exchanges with the local people, helped them with many practical problems and forged a profound friendship with them. They won high praise of service managing departments and the government of Guyana as excellent “Sino-Guyanan Folk Ambassadors”.  

Zhu Shanlu highly praised Guyana-aiding volunteers of Nanjing, who have delivered excellent results on behalf of Nanjing, Jiangsu and China. He told them, you are pioneers of organized volunteer group of Nanjing that goes global. Your remarkable contribution has set up an example for the young and volunteers in Nanjing. The whole city should learn from your experience and start an upsurge of voluntary services, as an opening for the 2014 YOG voluntary activities.

At the ceremony, Chen Guanghao, head of Youth Volunteer Work Section of the CYL Central Committee awarded Chinese Youth Volunteer Overseas Service Medals to the volunteers. (Nanjing Daily)
