As the Changjiang Channel is to be completed in May, Pukou District is now planning a cross-river passage to joint the Yangtze River Bridge, Weiqi Rd. Tunnel, and the Third Yangtze River Bridge and to link Qiaolin Advanced Manufacturing Base, Pukou New and High Technology Development Zone and the Pearl Spring Scenic Spot. According to Pukou Transportation Bureau, it will facilitate cross-river traffic.

At the exit of Weiqi Rd Changjiang Tunnel – the construction site of Longhua Roundabout –a dual-direction 8-lane fast road has been completed (Zongbu Avenue). From now on, it takes only 5 minutes by car from here to Hexi main city.

“Here’s the biggest roundabout in Jiangbe, which will be finished on April 15th” Tao Guojiu, Vice-commander of Longhua Roundabout Rebuild Project says, “The roundabout covers an area of 10,000 square meters. This traffic hub will a conjuncture for 5 roads – Puzhu Rd., Zongbu Avenue, Ninghe Expressway, Wende Rd., and the future Huahui Avenue. Foundation has been reserved for the future viaduct. Later, all vehicle flow in dual-direction 8-lane Changjiang Tunnel will be divided here.

Renovation of Longhua Roundabout is just one of the projects for linking Pukou cross-river tunnel. Earlier, Pukou District had planned a road network to conjunct cross-river passage.

“Weiqi Rd Tunnel will be open to traffic soon. Plus the existing Yantze River Bridge and the Third Yangtze River Bridge, Pukou District is now completing its cross-river passage. We have arranged to build a conjuncture road network composed of 5 vertical roads and 7 horizontal roads”, responsible person of Pukou Communication Bureau says, “These 12 roads will improve communication of Pukou and realize smooth vehicle flow in the region.”

Traffic of Jiangbei should enable automobiles to get on expressways within 10 minutes; arrive at main city within 20 minutes; run on ways to work and back home with no more than 15 minutes; go inside towns and villages within 30 minutes. This is the 2010 communication development target for Pukou District, called “1213” Project in short.

“When cross-river communication facility is complete, Pukou will become a new city area that better suits habitation” a leader of the district says, “Based on current cross-river passage, plus the future cross-river metro, completed communication facility will link Pukou seamlessly with the main city.” (Nanjing Daily)
