Shanghai Expo will be opened on May 1st, brining direct turnover of nearly 11 billion RMB and indirect earnings of 80 billion RMB. As predicted by Bureau of Shanghai Expo Coordination, number of visitors to this year’s expo will set a record in the 150-year history of World Exposition by hitting 70 million person-times and around 3.5 million person-times from out of China. 

“Among the visitors, 1/3 have the intention to travel to Nanjing so the total number is more than 20 million person-times”, disclosed by responsible person of The Yangtze River World Expo Themed Travel Cooperation Team. This figure was generated by conducting sample survey and referring to related analytic data. 

Jin Weidong, deputy director-general of Nanjing Tourism Bureau thinks that, Nanjing has greater appeal to Shanghai Expo visitors especially those who come from foreign countries in that it has rich historical and cultural resources, abundant tourism resources and convenient traffic linking to Shanghai.

The bureau also works together with some travel agencies in Shanghai and Nanjing to jointly provide 9 featured itineraries of “Jinling World Expo Travel”, 4 of which have been selected by Bureau of Shanghai Expo Coordination as recommended itineraries. 

It is introduced that the 9 itineraries roughly fall in to 5 categories: “Culture of the period of the Republic of China in Chinese mainland, Culture of the Ming Dynasty, Science and Education, Hot Spring Recreation and Nanjing Metropolis Circle”.

Jin Weidong also discloses that, Nanjing Tourism Bureau is planning to implement “World Expo Tourism Reception Service Advancement Plan”, e.g. recommend 100 hotels with good services to visitors of World Expo; cooperate with 50 A-rank scenic spots in Nanjing to offer  20%-50% ticket discount to individual travelers; train 100 foreign language tour guides with good manners; promulgate reception standard for Expo Tourism Industry etc. (Nanjing Daily)
