An important adjustment has been made to the project of South Nanjing Railway Station fast ring road. Main city-Cuipin Hill, Jiangning section will be broadened to 12 lanes. The project is expected to be finished in 2012, together with the South Nanjing Station. The reporter gets the above information from the communications department.
According to the reponsible person the Airport Highway Traffic Police Brigade, the current traffic flow on main city-Cuipin Hill, Jiangning section of Airport Highway is 30,000 vehicle-time/day, reaching the upper limit of the road capacity. When the South Nanjing Station is put into operation, the traffic flow on Airport Highway will become even higher and passing-through will be more difficult. Therefore, the broadening project for main city-Cuipin Hill section is pulled ahead.
The original design proposal was to broaden the Airport Highway from Huashenmiao intersection to Qinhuai River New Bridge in the south, in 6 dual lanes. But as the plan is adjusted greatly, the broadening will extend to Cuipin Hill intersection for relieving vehicle entering and exiting from Jiangning. The current design of 12 dual lanes includes 6 highway lanes and 6 ordinary road lanes, which are reserved for the 8-lane expansion in the future. Besides, an overhead ramp bridge will be built at Cuipin Hill on-ramp. It will cross the current ramp and Tianyuanlu Bridge, extending to Tianyuan Road. So vehicle heading for Dongshan, Jiangning can directly run from Airport Highway to Tianyuan Road, without going through the current ramp.
At the moment, feasibility report of this project has been reviewed and initial design of the project has passed the preliminary assessment. When NDRC Jiangsu Committee re-assesses the design, the construction can be kicked off. (Nanjing Daily)
