Construction for 5 Metro Lines to be Started within 3 Years in Nanjing

It is reported by related department that Nanjing plans to invest 12 million RMB in 3 years to comprehensively improve city environment, including city profile, function, quality and habitat. It involves every aspect of your life and is the biggest city construction project ever.

When Phase I and Eastward Extension of Metro Line 2 and Southward Extension of Metro Line 1 open to traffic in May, Nanjing will kick off the construction for Phase I of Metro Line 3 (Linchang – Qinhuai Rd., 32.7km); Phase II of Line 3 (Qinhuai Rd. – Jiyin Avenue, 7.5km); Westward Cross-river Extension of Line 1 (Olympic Stadium – Chengxi Rd., 14.4km); Northward Extension (Mai Gaoqiao – Yanzi Ji, 4km) and Metro Line 4 (Pearl Spring – East Xianlin, 43.1km). Among them, Metro Line 4 is a city express line connecting the east and the west, running through the main city, Xianlin new city and Jiangbei new city. Besides, creating conditions to build light rails to the airport, Yangzhou and Zhenjiang is also recorded as an important way to solve the traffic congestion.

The reporter learns that in 3-year-time, number of public buses in Nanjing will grow from 5,791 to 6,600. More than 100km of specialized bus lane will be built in the main city for a more smooth operation of buses. Bus stops will be better set up to realize "zero-distance" transfer with rail transportation. The ratio of taking public transportation will be enhanced from 21.86% to 24.5%.
