After being moved from Baiyunting to Jiangning, the biggest market of Nanjing will upgrade its quality safety inspection level for farm produce. According to the Bureau of Agriculture and Forestry, a first-class farm produce quality safety integrated inspection center will be established in the market before end of June, which will keep the first pass of primary products well for citizens.

“The inspection center will make quantified accurate inspection fully covering vegetables, fruits, aquatic products and flesh”, said by responsible person of the Bureau of Agriculture and Forestry. Different from the previous nature-determined inspection (whether pesticide residue or related forbidden chemical exceeds the standard), the new center will realized accurate inspection, not only showing whether related items have exceeded standards, but also providing precise content and over-standard value. It is said that, inspected vegetables will be inspected of 17 forbidden pesticide and analyzed on heavy metal. For flesh, clenbuterol will be inspected. For milk, whether melamine has been added will be investigated. Residue of chloromycetin and malachite green will be inspected for aquatic products.

This person expressed that, when the inspection center went into operation, all in-market farm produce and sideline products should send samples there for inspection. Only qualified ones can enter the market for trade. At the same time, management personnel will also conduct sample inspection to products on sale, as a second line of defense. The management department of the market will establish “credit profile” for all business owners. Shops that have failed in inspection for several times will be driven out of the market as punishment.
