On December 2, Zhu Shanlu, Provincial Standing Committee member and Party secretary, met Hong Bopei, American ambassador to China. This is Hong’s first business visit to Jiangsu since he took the office. Before the meeting, the two sides cut the ribbon for the Photo Exhibition of “Nanjing Memories in SINO-America Engagement” and visited the exhibition and Nanjing city construction planning sand table with interests. Kang Bicui, American consul general to Shanghai and Wang Shouwen, vice mayor and Standing Member of Nanjing Municipal Committee, attended the above activities.

Zhu Shanlu welcomed Hong Bopei and his team. He said, this year is the 30th year since China and America establish diplomatic relations. Your visiting in Nanjing provides a new opportunity of enhancing the engagement between Nanjing and our sister cities in America and it also provide a chance for us to further deepen the acknowledgement and cooperation. Zhu Shanlu said, Nanjing played an important role in the history of the friendly engagement between Chinese and American people. Since the publishing of the reform and open policy, America became one of the most important partners for Nanjing’s external exchanges and financial cooperation. A lot of American enterprises and entrepreneurs came to Nanjing early to start their businesses. Many of them are developing well in Nanjing. We will keep providing better conditions for the American enterprises to expend their development in Nanjing.

Hong Bopei expressed his appreciation to the considerate arrangement of Zhu Shanlu as well as Nanjing. He said, Nanjing is a fundamental city in the America-China relationship. There are many much-told tales about the friendship of America and China. Among all the elements in the cooperation of America and China, education is the base and the key point. The deepen cooperation between America and China in future is basing on the firm understanding among of the youth. Nanjing has abundant scientific and educational resources. President Obama is planning to send 100,000 overseas students to study in China in the next 4 years. And Nanjing will be an important city in this project. We are looking forward the successful educational cooperation between America and China. We also expect that in the next 30years, Nanjing will play an even more important role in the America-China cooperation and communication.

Hong Bopei said, in aspect of commerce, America and China are both the second business partners for each other. American companies in every scale are expecting to develop their business in China and American business circles are quite interested in the development in Nanjing.
