The result of survey on the First Cities with Strong Soft Power in China was announced. Nanjing, Shanghai, Tianjin, and Chongqing are all on the Top 10 list. Nanjing’s education development power ranks the first in the country.

The survey is carried out by the “Outlook Weekly” of Xinhua News Agency, the China Association of Mayors, and the Public Relations Research Center of Fudan University together.

The awards speech describes “Nanjing, renowned as the ‘ancient capital of six dynasties’ and ‘capital of ten dynasties’, not only has beautiful landscapes but also has profound culture and strong education.” The education of Nanjing has a long history. Celebrities in culture or politics are countless in Nanjing since the ancient time. Today, Nanjing has constructed a comparatively perfect modern education system and life-long education system. The popularization of the 15-year compulsory education is realized by and large and the higher education is beyond the threshold of popularization.

“Nanjing is a city perfectly combined ancient civilization with modern culture. Nanjing is selected to be one of the Top 10 cities with strong soft power is because the scores for the comprehensive indexes are all good, especially the scientific education power which can drive and gather more power for its development”, said Professor Meng Jian, Head of the Public Relations Research Center of Fudan University. Nowadays, the cooperation and competition among cities is embodied at the level of their soft power. The soft power is an important backbone for a city to gather strength, attract popularity, and accumulate fortune. The education development power will drive Nanjing’s development.
