Word’s First Aspiration Pacemaker Successfully Implanted in Nanjing

At Jiangsu People’s Hospital, Chinese and American experts cooperated to successfully implant a “phrenic nerve stimulator” in human body for the first time in the world. This method will effectively cure patients with heart failure and sleep apnea.
The development of this technology will help more than 10 million patients with heart failure.

48-year-old Ms. Cai had a sleep in “sleep lab” of Aspiration Department, Jiangsu People’s Hospital.
Professor Zhang Xilong of the hospital introduced that, “Cai is a patient with refractory and expansionary cardiomyopathy. She cannot sleep on her back at night and she gasps when walking. This is typical heart failure along with sleep apnea.”

“It’s miraculous. When I lied down to sleep, the box was said to open automatically.” In the past, Ms. Cai often woke up from suffocation and hadn’t had a good sleep for years. “Now, I can really enjoy a good sleep.”
The match-box like aspiration pacemaker can aspirate for a person and automatically close when the user stand up to walk.

In the world, there are more than 25 million people with heart failure and over 40% of them suffer from sleep apnea syndrome. Many people were killed by this “dangerous killer” during sleep.
