June 2nd, a group of foreign housewives enjoyed a very traditional Dragon Boat Festival in advance by watching Yun Brocade, tasting new tea, making zongzi and eating traditional snacks of the Confucius Temple. These ladies who are members of “Heart of Hope”, a charitable foundation were invited to attend a thematic activity named “Our Festival-Foreign Housewives in Nanjing during the Dragon Boat Festival”.
Their first stop is Nanjing Yunjin Museum where magnificent Yun Brocade impressed them. Then they went to Lao Cui Teahouse. There, they watched tea ceremony performed by professionals while listening to beautiful music from Chinese Zither.
At noon, they learnt to make zongzi on the sightseeing balcony of Guibinglou of the Confucius Temple.
“What a beautiful city Nanjing is!” said them. Even if they will leave the city, they will always remember its beautify and the harmonious interpersonal relationships here. “The Dragon Boat Festival is not only a holiday for Chinese but also our festival!”
In recent years, traditional Chinese festivals have become good opportunities to promote communication between China and foreign countries, say the Dragon Boat Competition held on Mochou Lake for foreign-invested companies and “Fun all over the World” serial activity. More and more foreign friends are enabled to know more about China and Nanjing. The host hopes to let these foreign housewives know Nanjing more and experience its traditional culture and local customs.
“Hear of Hope” charitable foundation is an organization that exclusively raise funds for children suffering from congenital heart disease in poor families of China. It was founded in 2003 and all initiators were foreign housewives to foreign expatriates. (Nanjing Daily) |
