Humanized Disposal of Tibetan Mastiff from the Police

One evening in last August, two Tibetan mastiffs in Bishuiwan Complex of Jiangning harmed people. Many police besieged the dogs till their master came back. This kind of humanized way won understanding and support from the citizens. Director-general of Nanjing Public Security Bureau received an oversea email from American Chinese Li Jianqiang, associate professor of International Relations in University of Houston. He thanked Nanjing police for their humanized way of treating animals.

Li Jianqiang is the principal of Animal Protection Association of North American Chinese. He keeps in touch with Ha Wenjing, principal of Nanjing Peace Afu Animal Protection Association. Knowing Nanjing Police did not kill the dogs violently with police instruments, he felt appreciated.

In his letter to Xu Zhubao, Director-general of Nanjing Public Security Bureau, he say, “Nanjing Police did not take approaches with force, pressure or blood to deal with the case of dogs hurting people, instead, they caught the dogs in humanized way and solved the problem well. Nanjing Shifosi Dog Custody and Examination Center contacted the owner of the dogs that caused trouble for their character and food preference. All these details moved me. On behalf of Animal Protection Association of North American Chinese, I would like to show my deepest appreciation to you and your colleagues!”

Source of Public Security Branch of the bureau says, the police always hold the view that the master of dogs that hurt people should be blamed instead of the dogs. So they will punish dog owners rather than killing the dogs.

Dog Custody and Examination Center mentioned in Li’s email was founded in August, 2007.Inital intention of building the center is to solve the increasingly severe problem of wandering dogs in the city. Now, the center not only takes in wandering dogs, but also keeps dogs that are raised against regulations in custody. Specialized animal hospital and veterinarians  are responsible for diagnosing and quarantine. Dedicated animal keepers feed them and clean the doghouses. Citizens may adopt the dogs there.
