Huning Intercity Railway Track-laying Started, Open to Traffic on Jul. 1

Huning (Shanghai-Nanjing) Intercity Railway will be opened to traffic on July 1st as scheduled. Recently, track-laying has been started.

Huning Intercity Railway will not only directly provide services for Shanghai Expo, but also has significant meaning to completing railroad network of the Yangtze River Delta Region, improving regional communication environment and promoting the sound and fast development of economy. This railway is in parallel to the north of the current Huning Railway, extending from Shanghai Station to Nanjing Station via Suzhou, Wuxi and Changzhou. Its total length is 300km and 32km is in Shanghai while 268km is in Jiangsu. Huning Intercity Railway is a special railway line for passenger transport jointly invested by the Ministry of Railways, Jiangsu Province and Shanghai.

Construction of this railway started from July 1st, 2008. According to the schedule, track-laying starts on Feb. 1st and completes on Feb. 28th. (Nanjing Morning Post)
