Commerce of Nanjing is booming. According to the two-year research result made by experst of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, the city now ranked second in China. And the latest statistics released by Nanjing Commerce and Trade Bureau just proved this. Li Shaoming, Chief of Consumer Goods Circulation Section, Nanjing Commerce and Trade Bureau, told the reporter of 5 reasons why Xinjiekou, Nanjing is better than Nanjing Road, Shanghai.
Professor Chen Xinkang, PHD supervisor of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics explained in person the important academic achievement made by his university through 2-year study – China City Retail Strength Index. With the score of 1.212, Nanjing’s ranking is higher than 1.059 of Guangzhou and 0.918 of Shanghai, only coming after 1.213 of Beijing. He said, retail strength index directly reflects the external purchasing power of a city, i.e. commercial influence of a city. He explained that, generally in people’s mind, the power of Shanghai is stronger than Nanjing. But why the figures show an oppostie conclusion? One big reason is that, Shanghai has advantages in the development of other industries while the importance of commerce goes down in the whole city ecnomic structure. Or we can say its commerce makes less contribution to its economy than Nanjing, Beijing and Guangzhou, so the ranking drops. Professor Chen also simply explained why Nanjing was unexpectedly placed the 2nd. Nanjing actually has its own triumph. It has greater appeal to neighboring cities in the northern Jiangsu or Anhui than Shanghai. On the other hand, organization degree of Nanjing’s retail trade is not inferior to Shanghai. Organization degree means the proportion of chain business in retail trade. If the Olympics hadn’t stimulated the ecnomy of Beijing, Nanjing would have closed the gapof 0.001 and triumphed over Beijing to become No. 1. Does Xinjiekou, Nanjing win over Nanjing Road, Shanghai? Li Shaoming, Chief of Consumer Goods Circulation Section, Nanjing Commerce and Trade Bureau has made a study specially and his conclusion is that there are 10 reasons to support the answer “Yes”.
