More than 10,000 Citizens Welcomed the New Year by Tolling the Bell

With the toll of the bell, we bid farewell to the old year and by ascending a height, we pray for blessings in the New Year. From late at night of year-end to the early morning of Jan. 1, many people joyfully participated in the New Year's Greeting Bell Toll activity.  

 

At 21:00 in the evening, many citizens gathered at the Jiming Temple to toll the bell and climb up the tower.

 

By the time of 23:00, more and more people came but in ordered way. Xuanwu Police Station dispatched a lot of police to maintain the order along the road in front of Xuanzang Temple. The traffic management department also conducted traffic control to adjacent roads.

 

At 0:00 of Jan. 1, all the participants on the site happily cheered to welcome the year 2010 when the 108 toll sounded in the Qixia Temple.

 

According to incomplete statistics, there were about 100,000 people in Nanjing who participated in New Year's Greeting Bell Toll activities. (Nanjing Daily)
