Meng Kailing is an American. She went back to America for work after she graduated from Nanjing University in 1992, but she still insists one activity initiated during her study in Nanjing University.—organizing families with handicapped children to go out to see the world. A few days ago, Ms. Meng and her younger sister, together with students of Nanjing University and volunteers in Nanjing, booked a coach and took 20 families with handicapped children to the countryside in Tangshan. They together went climbing, went fishing, finding bamboo leaves, and doing games.
Ms. Meng told that she asked her American friends who study in Nanjing University to go to Tangshan to find a river with bamboo leaves and ask the local villagers to leave some for the families to pick up. On that day, Ms. Meng organized all to taste the country food for lunch. During lunch, laughs and songs were continuous. All of them enjoyed it very much.
Ms. Meng added, these kinds of activities are to support the handicapped to find a job, have education and join in social activities. She comes to Nanjing twice every year and each time she organizes 20 families. All costs are on her. (Yangtze Evening) |
