Being co-invested by the People’s Governments of Jiangsu Province and Nanjing Municipality, construction of this development zone was started on September 1, 1988 and it was approved by the State Council as a state-level high-tech industrial development zone on March 6, 1991.
Nanjing High and New Technology Industrial Development Zono is located near the north bank of the Yangtze River, with a planning area of 16.5 km2 and more than 1,000 enterprises, among which over 100 enterprises are foreign investments.

By relying on the tremendous scientific research strength and solid industrial base of Nanjing and persistently taking development of high-tech industry as the leading factor, Nanjing High-Tech Industrial Development Zone has achieved considerable scales of economy in the four areas of information technology (IT), biology technology (BT) and medicine, new materials, and aviation and space flight. It serves as the concentration point and production base for IT, BT and medicine. There are 175 high-tech enterprises in the Zone, accounting for 75% of the total number of high-tech enterprises in Nanjing as a whole. The output value of such high-tech enterprises account for 90% of the aggregate revenue of the Zone in technology, agriculture and trade.

Nanjing High-Tech Industrial Development Zone will follow the overall object of building “a garden-like high-tech park and a graceful community”, accelerate development and construction, and create better conditions for development of high-tech industry in Jiangsu and Nanjing.
