located in Pukou District, Nanjing to the north of the Yangtze River and recognized as a provincial-level economic development zone in 1993, it is now devoting itself to building three major parks including the Tunnel Park, the Sanqiao (the Third Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge) Park and the Qiaolin New Park, with food & drugs,
auto/motor, electric equipment and new material industries as its focuses. It has a number of national platforms such as the Nanjing Pukou Bio-medical Industrial Base which is established under the National Torch Programme, the National Biochemical Center, the national-level NUT Technological Industrial Park, the national-level TPR Testing Platform and the Jiuwu Inorganic Membrane Research Center under the State-local Joint Project. The Tunnel Park is designed to cover an area of 12.65 square
kilometers and has attracted over 70 production companies and R&D institutions. The Sanqiao Park is designed to cover an area of 9 square kilometers and has introduced 17 projects. The Qiaolin New Park is recently designed to cover an area of 22 square kilometers and is started construction in June, 2010. It has so far generally set up its Stage I project framework covering 4.08 square kilometers and its 4.4-square-kilometer Stage II project is being framed up. The Development Zone has signed over 50 projects with a total investment close to RMB35 billion, where 14 projects are invested with at least RMB1 billion or USD100 million each. It has begun to build 18 industrial projects including the Yurun Food Industrial Park with a total investment of nearly RMB4 billion.
