Nanjing International School
NIS is an English-medium international school for expatriate children in Nanjing.. It is an International Baccalaureate World School, which delivers its curriculum in the English Language. This means that they are authorized to offer the three programmes of the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO).
NIS offers the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) for children age 3 to 10. They offer the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) for students age 11 to 16. They offer the IB Diploma Programme (DP) for students age 16, 17 and 18. For students whose first language is not English, they have a large ESL (English as a Second language) Department. The purpose of ESL is to enable students to participate as fully and as quickly as possible in the mainstream curriculum.
They teach in English, but they support linguistic diversity. They encourage community initiatives to support home language development, and build reading resources in all of their community languages. They employ an international faculty, for an international student population, challenging us all to learn about, tolerate and respect each other?s culture.
They offer a first class facility, in which students and faculty can enjoy the process of learning. They deliver internationally recognized academic programmes, and submit to regular external evaluation, by experts, of the effectiveness their teaching and learning.
They believe that students at Nanjing International School can enjoy a fulfilling and rewarding international education. They are nonetheless a school in China, and they reflect this through the experiences they offer students, from the style of their building, to learning to speak Chinese, to the field trips and community service activities carried out in the Chinese community.

The British School of Nanjing
The school is wholly foreign owned and managed. Daily operations are managed by the Headmaster.
BSN is governed by the British Schools Group, a non-profit organisation that aims to promote quality British-style education worldwide. The school is fully registered with the Ministry of Education in China and also is an associate member of the East Asian Association of British International Schools (EAABIS), the Council of British International Schools (COBIS), and is registered with the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority in the UK (ISN: 1880018).
Curriculum and learning
The school follows the British National Curriculum, which is one of three main internationally recognised curricula. Students who graduate from National Curriculum schools can choose to study in most universities worldwide without requiring to sit additional examinations.
The National Curriculum is known for its clear teaching guidelines, including teaching requirements of minimum teaching hours for subjects as well as guidelines on teaching the gifted and talented.
At the British School of Nanjing, students learn in a differentiated environment whereby their individual abilities are developed through small group learning. This specialised learning is delivered by an experienced, UK qualified teacher and supported by a native English speaking teaching assistant in every classroom.
The school also has a comprehensive Chinese second language programme whereby all students have Chinese lessons daily.
Students who speak English as a second language are assisted through a dedicated EAL programme, which includes multi-level support delivered by specialist teachers.
BSN opened in August 2007 with Pre-Nursery to Year 5 classes. The school has grown from 30 students to over 125 in its first years of operation. Students are all non-Chinese (PRC) passport holders coming from over 25 nationalities.
The school maintains a strict enrollment policy ensuring a balance of nationalities (all less than 30%) in every class so teachers can uphold international standards in English-intensive subjects, in line with the British National Curriculum.
32% of students at the school come from a native English speaking background from countries such as the UK, USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Having the highest percentage of native English speaking students of the schools in Nanjing ensures that the British School maintains a well balanced English-medium environment.
