The Main Tower of the 5th Yangtze River Bridge will Come Above the Water

After the construction of the bored piles of the north main pier had been completed 1 month ahead of schedule, another good news came from the construction site of the 5th Yangtze River Bridge in Nanjing on November 12th. The steel box of the north main tower of the main bridge of the cross river bridge was successfully hoisted that day.


The 5th Yangtze River Bridge in Nanjing is a three tower steel-concrete girder cable-stayed bridge. The steel box of the north main tower was hoisted this time. It’s heard that the steel box is actually the construction platform and cofferdam formwork. After sinking into the bottom of the river, it become the bearing platform which blocks the river to form the work area through bottom sealing and pumping. The north tower pile length is 90 meters, and the steel box is hexagonal, about 1066 square meters with weight of 550 tons. At 7:00 AM yesterday morning, the construction company Nanjing Public Construction Center began the hoisting by using 1000 tons of large floating crane, and achieved one-time success of hoisting at 11:30, with the support of the maritime sector to coordinate many maritime maintenance boats, guard ships, high horsepower emergency tugs.


The reporter learned that the steel boxes hoisting of the south and middle tower of the 5th Yangtze River Bridge will be completed within this month. The success of hoisting the steel box marks that the construction of the 3 main towers in the 5th Yangtze River Bridge will be done in the water from the underground and officially enter the platform construction stage. To the end of December, the 3 main towers foundation will be above the Yangtze River water.


Nanjing 5th Yangtze River Bridge is located in about 13 kilometers upper reaches of the Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge. The whole line is designed as the standards of first class highway with a two-way six driveways, starting from the Five Mile Bridge in Pukou District, then connecting the Jiangbei Avenue which is pending to be rebuilt, across the main channel of the Yangtze River, and in Mei Zizhou passing under Jia River, ending in south shore of it and connecting with Jiangshan street, a total length of 10.335 kilometers. The main span of the bridge across the river is 1796 meters, which is a longitudinal diamond type cable bent tower, a central double cable plane, three towers composite beam cable-stayed bridge. The main bridge foundation construction of Nanjing 5th Yangtze River Bridge was started on May 8th of this year, and it is expected to be opened to traffic in 2020.
